Melissa Dymek and the Ravens finished ninth at the Rivier Raiders
Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon.
NASHUA, N.H. (September 25, 2009) – Sophomore Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished 30th overall in a time of 25:24 on Friday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the Rivier Raiders Cross Country Invitational. Emerson junior Cat Viglienzoni won the event individually with a time of 21:46 to lead the Lions to the team title as well.
Following closely behind Dymek for
Franklin Pierce was senior Alexandra Edwards (Smithfield,
R.I.), who finished 33rd with a time of 25:50. Sophomore
Elizabeth Iannuccillo (Amesbury, Mass.) and senior
Natasha Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) finished 47th and
57th with times of 27:41 and 29:04, respectively. Sophomore
LaPorsha Griffin (Bronx, N.Y.) finished 63rd with
a time of 31:05, while sophomore Ciara Chicas (Westerly,
R.I.) posted a time of 32:25 to finish 66th and round out
the Ravens’ participation in the event.
After Emerson (50 points), Saint Joseph’s (Maine) finished second with 57 points as the pair of schools combined for 10 of the first 25 finishers and blew away the rest of the field. Norwich (104 points) finished third, while Colby-Sawyer (119) and NHTI (120) rounded out the top-five in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Individually after Viglienzoni, Saint Joseph’s junior Katie Murphy finished second with a time of 21:51 to narrowly beat out Lasell sophomore Meghan Missett, who finished third in 21:52. Saint Joseph’s junior Mary Casinghino (22:40) and Rivier freshman Rebecca Vincent (22:41) finished one after the other to round out the top-five individually.
The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted by Gordon, at 10:45 a.m.
