Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

Ravens Volleyball Primed for the future: the Ravens' roster does not feature any upperclassmen in 2011.

RINDGE, N.H. (August 29, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team has been selected 11th in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced Friday by the conference office. The Ravens tallied 87 points in the 16-team poll.

The Ravens head into the 2011 campaign after a 10-14 season in 2010, which included a 4-11 mark in Northeast-10 play. After graduating only four players last year, Franklin Pierce will feature an even younger team in 2011, as all 11 players are either freshmen or sophomores. The Ravens return three of their seven starters from a year ago, led by 2010 Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team selection Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.).

Defending Northeast-10 champion New Haven (27-3, 15-0 NE-10 in 2010) took 11 of 16 available first-place votes and chalked up 220 points to snag the top spot in the poll. Pace (22-11, 11-4 NE-10) was ranked second with three first-place votes and 201 points, while the remaining two first-place votes were split between American International (20-13, 11-4 NE-10) in third and Bentley (17-4, 10-5 NE-10) in fifth. Between the two, Adelphi (20-12, 11-4 NE-10) was picked fourth.

In front of the Ravens, Stonehill (16-13, 11-4 NE-10) was sixth, Massachusetts Lowell (15-12, 9-6 NE-10) was seventh, Southern Connecticut State (16-13, 7-8 NE-10) was eighth, Merrimack (12-14, 9-6 NE-10) was ninth and Le Moyne (14-12, 7-8 NE-10) was 10th to round out the top 10.

Behind Franklin Pierce, Southern New Hampshire (10-14, 6-9 NE-10), Saint Rose (6-21, 3-12 NE-10), Saint Michael's (12-16, 4-11 NE-10), Saint Anselm (3-17, 2-13 NE-10) and Assumption (9-24, 0-15 NE-10) were ranked 12th through 16th, respectively.

Franklin Pierce opens the 2011 season on Friday, Sept. 2, with a pair of matches on the campus of Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. The Ravens will take on Michigan Tech at noon and Notre Dame (Ohio) at 2 p.m. Franklin Pierce's first home match is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24 against New Haven at 1 p.m.
