Bates Earns Northeast-10 All-Academic Honors
Belmont, N.H. native receives accolades in her final collegiate season
RINDGE, N.H. (October 26, 2004) -
Franklin Pierce volleyball team member Briana Bates (Belmont, N.H./Endicott
College) has earned a spot on the 2004 Northeast-10
All-Academic Second Team. The teams are selected by the Sports
Information Directors of the Northeast-10. Candidates are chosen
based on their performances both on and off the court. She was one
of just twelve student-athletes selected out of the 22 who were
nominated. The Franklin Pierce senior has earned a 3.49 cumulative
grade point average while majoring in finance with an accounting
minor.
Serving as the team’s co-captain, the Ravens middle-hitter
has been a consistent performer in her third season. Bates has
appeared in all 76 games and has started 19 of 20 matches for
Franklin Pierce in 2004. She leads the team with a hitting
percentage of .314 and a blocks per game average of 0.57, while her
2.99 kills per game are good for second on the team.
Bates’ top performance this season came in a win over
American International College on September 16. She led the
visitors to a 3-1 road victory, totaling 17 kills and seven blocks.
Bates was also outstanding in matches versus Saint Michael’s
and Southern New Hampshire, tallying 18 kills in a pair of 3-1
victories for the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce currently boasts an overall record of 9-11 and a
league mark of 5-7. They will wrap up their season with two home
and two road matches. The team will travel to Southern Connecticut
State University for a Northeast-10 Conference match on Thursday
beginning at 7 p.m. They will then return home for matches against
Keene State and UMass Lowell on Friday and Tuesday, before wrapping
up their 2004 schedule with a road match at Saint Anselm on
Thursday, November 4.
