DUDLEY, Mass. (September 1, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Friday afternoon, 9-0, by Nichols, in the team's non-conference season opener.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-1, while Nichols improves to 2-0.
Nichols picked up wins at each of the three doubles matches to open the day. Senior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomore Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) put up the biggest fight for the Ravens, at first doubles, though they were ultimately defeated, 8-3, by Nichols senior Ashley Dallaire and sophomore Amarie Settiwongse.
Later, in singles play, Nichols completed the shutout by dropping just 10 games across six straight-set victories. Sophomore Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) picked up four of the Ravens' games on her own, as she fell 6-2, 6-2 at third singles to sophomore Megan Nathanson.
In all, four Nichols players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Friday. Senior Alanna Judd led the way, as she was victorious at first singles and second doubles. At second doubles, she teamed with sophomore Isabelle Leonardi for an 8-1 win. Later, at first singles, she rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Wyatt.
The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 2, when they travel to Holy Cross for a non-conference match at 10 a.m. in Worcester, Mass.
