Ravens host Stonehill Wednesday
RINDGE, N.H. (September 22, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0, by New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference play at New Haven.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-5 (0-4 Northeast-10), while New Haven improves to 1-5 (1-5 Northeast-10).
The Ravens picked up two sets from New Haven across six singles matches on Tuesday afternoon, after being swept in doubles play. At second singles, freshman Kara Brazel (Glastonbury, Conn.) won the first set, 6-4, against New Haven freshman Kristen McCormick, but ultimately dropped a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-4 decision. Meanwhile, at fifth singles, freshman Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) snagged the first set from New Haven freshman Caitlyn Burridge, 6-3, but was ultimately defeated, 3-6, 6-0, 10-4.
In all, all six New Haven players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Tuesday, led by senior Alexander Sharshakov, who lost just one game on the day. Teamed with Burridge, she scored an 8-1 win at third doubles, before taking the court at first singles, where she swept to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they return home to host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 2 p.m. in Rindge.
