Angelika Johansson Named Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Junior tallies five goals on the week for 10 points
RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2009) – Junior
midfielder Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden)
was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week in
women’s soccer, the league announced on Monday. Johansson
scored five goals during the week for 10 points, including notching
a hat-trick in last Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Bentley. It was
her first weekly award from the conference this season.
It marks the second-consecutive week a Raven women’s soccer
player was honored with the award, as senior midfielder
Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil) took home the
honor last Monday. In all, the women’s soccer team has
garnered a weekly award from the league three times so far this
season.
Johansson got her week off to a great start with the three goals
against Bentley in Sodexo Field. Her first goal came when she
intercepted a Bentley pass in the offensive zone, weaved in, and
deposited the ball in the back of the net to give the Ravens a 2-0
lead a little more than six minutes into the contest. Johansson
capped the victory with a pair of goals late to give her the
hat-trick.
Her strong play continued in Saturday’s 7-0 win at Pace, as
she scored twice to give her 10 goals for the season. Johansson is
currently tied for second in the Northeast-10 in goals,
goals-per-game, points and points-per-game.
Johansson and the women’s soccer team are currently riding a
six-game winning streak with all six victories coming via shutout.
Franklin Pierce has exploded for 30 goals during that streak and
has out-scored the opposition, 46-5, this season. As of Sept. 20,
Franklin Pierce ranks seventh nationally in goals-per-game.
The Ravens will look to improve upon their winning streak when
they travel to face Stonehill on Wednesday at 4 p.m. For more
