Jaksina Named to womenslacrosse.com All-Rookie Team
Townsend, Mass., native is second Raven freshman to earn honor in
as many seasons
RINDGE, N.H. (May 20, 2009) - Franklin Pierce University freshman defender Kimberly Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) has been named to the All-Rookie team by womenslacrosse.com. It marks the second-straight season a Franklin Pierce student-athlete has earned a spot on the website's All-Rookie squad.
Jaksina, who joins sophomore
teammate Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass./North
Quincy) as an All-Rookie selection by the website, earns
the honor after finishing her first collegiate season ranked among
NCAA Division II leaders in draw controls and ground balls per
game. Jaksina started all 16 games for the Ravens this spring and
ranked second among NE-10 leaders with 3.38 draw controls per game
(9th nationally) and fourth with 3.44 ground balls per
game
(11th nationally). Her 25 caused turnovers for the
season were second-best on the team to sister, senior
Kayleigh Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North
Middlesex), while she also collected four goals and four
assists for eight points.
Jaksina netted a season-high two goals for Franklin Pierce against Bentley University on March 24. She added a goal in the Ravens 18-12 win at Norwich University on April 23 and collected assists against nationally ranked opponents Adelphi University (eventual national champions) and Stonehill College.
Franklin Pierce (7-9, 4-6 NE-10) recently completed its most successful season in program history, breaking the program's record for wins in a season while making its second postseason appearance. The Ravens, who earned a spot in the NE-10 Tournament for the first time since 2003, also matched the program's single-season mark for conference wins and also set new single-season standards for goals (197), assists (86) and points (283).
