Second-straight year Giroud is named to the academic team
RINDGE, N.H. (April 12, 2012) -- Franklin Pierce University women's basketball standout Marielle Giroud (Martigny, Switzerland) was named to the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team on Wednesday, as announced by the league. It marks the second-straight season Giroud was selected to the squad.
To be eligible for selection to the NE-10 Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
In the classroom, Giroud, a senior forward, has posted a 3.36 cumulative grade point average in her major of biology. Her academic work has also been honored by CoSIDA as the organization placed on the Academic All-District I First-Team back in March.
On the court Giroud was just as spectacular this season as she was named the 2012 NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in as many years. She was also named to the All-NE-10 Second-Team after averaging 15.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Giroud scored in double-figures in 23 games, including tossing in a season-high 27 points in an 85-66 win over Southern New Hampshire in the first round of the NE-10 tournament back on Feb. 26. She also pumped in 24 points in a 66-61 win over C.W. Post back on Dec. 30 and went over 1,000 career points in the process.
Giroud ranked among the NE-10 leaders in several categories, including: scoring (11th); rebounding (8th); steals (4th, 61); field goals made (11th, 151); field goal percentage (13th, 47.9%); free throws made (4th, 129); free throw percentage (7th, 86.0%); and assists (17th, 78).
She helped guide the Ravens to a 20-10 record this season and the program's fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
