Women's Basketball Visits the Mount Caesar School in Swanzey
RINDGE, N.H. (November 17, 2008) - The Franklin
Pierce women's basketball team visited the first grade class
at the Mount Caesar School in Swanzey, N.H., recently.
Each team member was paired with a student in Mrs. Ann Beaudry-Torrey's class to assist on the group's "Flat Stanley Project". "Flat Stanley" is based on a 1964 children's book in which a boy is flattened in his sleep by a bulletin board that fell off his bedroom wall and goes on to wondrous adventures because of his new shape.
Each pair created their own version of "Flat Stanley" with construction paper, yarn, fabric and other materials. The first graders will write in "Flat Stanley" journals throughout the year combining "Flat Stanley" experiences with their own personal experiences. Each individual has created a new name for their "Flat Stanley," and journals will be exchanged at various times through the school year.
The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team wishes "Flat Stanley" well on his adventures.
