Softball Falls 5-1 to Le Moyne on Thursday
Jayme Bilafer drives in run for the Ravens
LOWELL, Mass. (April 28, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce
University softball team dropped a 5-1, rain-shortened, decision to
Le Moyne on Thursday at the UMass-Lowell Softball Field in Lowell,
Mass. The Ravens fell to 10-27 overall and 8-17 in the
Northeast-10, while the Dolphins improved to 14-20 and 12-10 in
league play. The game was a rescheduled contest due to an earlier
post-ponement. The game was called due to darkness in the bottom
half of the fifth inning, as all stats and the score were
retroactive to the middle of the fifth inning.
The Ravens pushed their run across in the second inning as Jamie Verner (Natick, Mass.) led off with a walk and moved all the way to third following a bunt single from Nicole Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) and a base-hit by Emily Griffin (Leominster, Mass.). Jayme Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) followed and forced a bases loaded walk to bring in Verner for the run. Bilafer was credited with an RBI on the play.
Jessica Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) got the start in the pitching circle for the Ravens and was saddled with the loss after yielding five runs over five innings of work. Also of note in Thursday's game was Rachel Baxter (Cumberland, R.I.) smacking a double to help lead the Ravens offensive attack.
