130 Franklin Pierce Student-Athletes Named to NE-10 Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll

RINDGE, N.H. (July 23, 2009) – 130 of Franklin Pierce University’s 276 student-athletes, who compete in Northeast-10 Conference sports have been recognized as members of the Conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2009 semester. The 130 Ravens are part of the 2,619 student-athletes from the NE-10’s 15 member institutions that earned a 3.0 semester grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or higher.

Softball Shutout Twice At Bentley To Conclude Season

(April 27, 2009) – Senior shortstop Alex Hitchcock (Abington, Mass./Abington) went 4-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice to lead Bentley to a 7-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Bentley on Monday afternoon. Bentley also won the first game, 4-0, as senior first baseman Dina Ferriero (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) hit 1-for-3 with a two-run double.

Softball Dropped Twice By Saint Michael’s

RINDGE, N.H. (April 26, 2009) – Sophomore right fielder Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) hit an RBI double to left field in the top of the eighth inning to bring home the game-winning run and give Saint Michael’s a 4-3 win over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Franklin Pierce Softball Field on Sunday afternoon. Saint Michael’s also won the second game, 13-1 in five innings, as four different Purple Knights drove in a pair of runs each.

Softball Falls Twice Against New Haven

(April 25, 2009) – Junior pitcher Breanne Gleason (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) went 2-for-2 with a home run, drove in two runs, scored three times and struck out nine in the circle to lead New Haven to a 13-5, six-inning victory over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader at Franklin Pierce Softball Field. New Haven won the first game as well, 3-2, as senior third baseman Jessica Medina (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Sr.) hit 2-for-3 with a solo home run.

Softball Nipped Twice By Assumption

RINDGE, N.H. (April 24, 2009) – Freshman pitcher Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) threw a one-hit shutout and recorded 13 strikeouts on Friday afternoon to lead Assumption to 1-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Franklin Pierce Softball Field. Assumption also won the first game, 2-1, as junior center fielder Meghan DiVitto (Milford, Mass./Milford) went 2-for-2 and scored twice.

(April 23, 2009) – Junior shortstop Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn./North Branford) went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run to lead Southern Connecticut State to an 8-0, six-inning victory over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Lassie League Field on Thursday afternoon. SCSU also won the second game, 7-1, as freshman right fielder Alyssa Pagano (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) hit 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored twice.

Saint Rose also won the first game, 5-0, as senior shortstop Ashley Anderson (Portland, Maine/Portland) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.

(April 18, 2009) – Junior left fielder Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Arcadia) hit 2-for-4 with a triple, drove in two runs and scored three times on Saturday afternoon to lead Le Moyne to an 8-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Niland Athletic Complex. Le Moyne also won the first game of the day, 1-0, behind a two-hit shutout from senior pitcher Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker).

(April 16, 2009) – Senior pitcher Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) tossed a six-hitter, allowed just two runs (one earned) and struck out six on Thursday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University softball team to a 4-2 victory in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Merrimack at Franklin Pierce Softball Field. Merrimack won the second game, 1-0, on the strength of a home run in the eighth inning by sophomore third baseman Kelsey Ellis (Vancouver, British Columbia).

(April 14, 2009) – Senior pitcher Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out nine on Tuesday afternoon to lead Pace to a 3-0 victory in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against the Franklin Pierce University softball team at Pace Field. Pace also won the second game, 4-3, behind a 2-for-4, two-RBI day by senior first baseman Patricia Hurley (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet). Senior left fielder Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) went 2-for-3 and scored twice in the second game for Franklin Pierce.

(April 13, 2009) – Sophomore shortstop Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, N.H./New Hampshire Tech) went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in the second game on Monday afternoon to lead Southern New Hampshire to an 8-3 victory and a doubleheader sweep of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce Softball Field. Southern New Hampshire won the first game by a score of 8-6 in eight innings. Senior designated player Elaine Matthews (Roslindale, Mass./Archbishop Williams) tallied five hits and drove in a pair of runs in the doubleheader for Franklin Pierce.

Softball Nipped Twice By Dowling

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (April 11, 2009) – Sophomore pitcher Jamie Stalter (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) struck out 10 and threw a five-pitch shutout on Friday afternoon to lead Dowling to a 2-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University softball team in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Lassie League Field. Dowling would later complete the doubleheader sweep with a 1-0 win in the second game. Senior pitcher Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) struck out 13, one shy of her career high, in defeat for Franklin Pierce in the first game.

Franklin Pierce Recognizes Athletic Department Honor Roll

RINDGE, N.H. (April 9, 2009) – Franklin Pierce University is pleased to announce that 130 of its 370 student-athletes (35-percent) from the fall 2008 semester have earned a spot on the University’s Athletics Department Honor Roll after earning grade point averages of 3.30 or higher for the fall semester. Softball Swept At Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (April 8, 2009) – Senior catcher Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double, drove in three runs and scored twice in two games on Wednesday afternoon to lead Stonehill to a sweep of the Franklin Pierce University softball team in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Fr. Gartland C.S.C. Field. Stonehill won the first game, 2-1, and the second game, 5-2. Junior catcher Kristen Tracy (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Walter Panas) had a double and drove in a pair of runs in the doubleheader for Franklin Pierce.
