Franklin Pierce Competes in Worcester Sprints

MN4 places first, but rest of Raven crews finish back in the packs

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 10, 2008) - The Franklin Pierce men's and women's rowing teams struggled in a series of sprint races on Lake Quinsigamond last weekend.

Franklin Pierce's men's novice four led the way for the Raven crews with a first-place finish, while the men's and women's varsity fours both placed fourth in their respective races. Also of note was the Ravens men's varsity four B-crew which finished second of three boats.

Franklin Pierce's men's novice four posted a time of 8:03.9 to finish ahead of both Amherst College (8:09.6) and Clark University (9:02.8). Rowing for the Ravens were freshman Michael Parthum (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) at stroke, freshman Corey Pinney (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) in the two seat, freshman Jon Gordon (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) at the three seat, with sophomore Tim Cardiello (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) in the bow and freshman Julie Waxman (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's men's varsity four posted a time of 7:42.7 in a race won by Connecticut College with a time of 7:20.4. Rowing for the Ravens were sophomore Ian Randall (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) at stroke, senior William Eroh (Meriden, Conn./Lyman Hall) in the two seat, sophomore Patrick Brosnan (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) at the three seat and freshman Kai Dadian (Saint Louis, Mo./University City) in the bow, with senior Brittany Bonesteel (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce's women's varsity four turned in a time of 8:45.0 in its sprint, which was won by Simmons College with a time of 7:57.6. Rowing for the Ravens were senior Blair Granum (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) at stroke, senior Jessica Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) in the two seat, senior Gwenn Curtis (Falls Village, Conn./Housatonic Valley) at three seat, with freshman Mairecait Binienda (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) in the bow and Christi Farina (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Cultural Arts Center) as the coxswain.

Franklin Pierce heads to Lowell, Mass., on Saturday to compete against the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Massachusetts Maritime Academy on the Merrimack River.
