Vinny Papageorgiou Named Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week
Papageorgiou earns honor after going 2-0-0 last week
RINDGE, N.H. (October 12, 2009) – Franklin
Pierce University sophomore Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington,
Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of
the Week, the league announced on Monday. It marks the first weekly
award for Papageorgiou this season.
Papageorgiou went 2-0-0 in goal for the Ravens last week, including
stopping six shots in Franklin Pierce’s 2-1 win at American
International on Tuesday. He made a pair of saves to earn the
shutout victory in Saturday’s 5-0 blanking of Saint Rose.
Papageorgiou, who has started in all 10 games he has played in this
season, raised his overall record to 7-2-1 with the victories last
week. He has recorded five shutouts on the year.
It marked the second goalkeeper weekly award for Franklin Pierce
this season as Alexander Pilitsis (Brunswick,
Maine) garnered the honor on Aug. 31.
Also on Monday, sophomore forward Victor Goncalves (Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil) was named to the Northeast-10 Weekly
Honor Roll. He was named to the list after compiling a five-point
week with a pair of goals and an assist. His goal at American
International on Tuesday night proved to be the game-winner.
The Ravens are riding a five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1), and hit
the road Wednesday for a game at Bentley (3:30 p.m.). Franklin
Pierce returns home to Sodexo Field Saturday night when it plays
host to Stonehill at 7 p.m. For more on Franklin Pierce men’s
