Nicholas Schibly Nicholas Schibly has been named Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 14, 2009) – Freshman forward Nicholas Schibly (Litchfield, N.H.) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 13, as announced Monday by the conference office. In addition, sophomore midfielder Paul Latif (Newcastle, England) has been named to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll.

Schibly made the best of his one appearance of the week and tallied his first career goal in the 84th minute against Saint Michael’s on Saturday night. Schibly’s insurance marker extended the Ravens lead and created a 2-0 assist. He knocked the ball into the waiting empty net off a well-placed feed from the left side by Amory Houghton, who picked up his first career assist in his collegiate debut.

On the season, Schibly now has three points on a goal and an assist in four appearances as a reserve for Franklin Pierce.

Latif scored the first goal of the game against Saint Michael’s. His penalty kick in the 58th minute served as the game-winning goal and was also his first goal and first points in a Franklin Pierce uniform after transferring in from Dean College.

The Ravens (3-2-1, 1-1-0 Northeast-10) return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they host Massachusetts Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The game is Pierce Pride Night for the Ravens and will feature promotions throughout the night, including a giveaway to the first 200 Franklin Pierce students in attendance.
