Bird Selected to NFHCA North/South Senior Game
RINDGE, N.H. (November 9, 2012) – Senior midfielder Megan Bird (Laconia, N.H.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been selected to represent the North Squad at the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South Senior Game, as announced by the NFHCA. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Cushing Field on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, host of the national semifinals and National Championship game, also held this weekend.

Bird Lays Claim to Program Assist Record, Field Hockey Downed in OT at Assumption, 3-2
WORCESTER, Mass. (October 20, 2012) – Senior midfielder Megan Bird (Laconia, N.H.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team entered the final game of her career on Saturday afternoon with 13 career assists, one behind the program’s all-time record. An assist in the first half tied the record, and another in the second half gave her sole possession, as she finished with 15 helpers. Unfortunately, the two assists would not be enough for the Ravens, who dropped a 3-2, overtime decision on the road at Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play.

(October 13, 2012) – Senior midfielder Megan Bird (Laconia, N.H.) and senior back Alyssa Juszczyk (Warren, Mass.) were the focal point on a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field, though the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Saint Michael’s in Northeast-10 Conference play. Bird picked up a first-half assist to move within one of the program’s record for career assists.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 10, 2012) – Junior forward Chanelle Letarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season in the first half on Wednesday afternoon, but it would not be enough, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Senior forward Beth Maguire and sophomore forward Gina Lirange tallied a goal and an assist each for Bentley, with the latter scoring the game-winning goal.

LOWELL, Mass. (October 6, 2012) – Sophomore midfielder Bianca Jones, junior forward Rachel McCarthy and junior forward Melissa Effertz all scored two goals each on Saturday afternoon to lead No. 4 nationally ranked Massachusetts Lowell to a 9-1 win over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Cushing Field. Freshman forward Chelsey Burnell (West Baldwin, Maine) scored her first career goal in the loss for Franklin Pierce.

(October 4, 2012) – Freshman midfielder Katrina Squeri scored twice, including the game-winning goal, on Thursday night to lead No. 7 nationally ranked Merrimack over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Junior forward Chanelle Letarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) scored the lone goal in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 2, 2012) - A drive off a penalty corner by senior midfielder Megan Bird (Laconia, N.H.) with 3:34 to play in the first overtime on Tuesday night ricocheted off a defender and into the back of the cage to give the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team a 1-0 road win over Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play at Grappone Stadium. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Cote (Athol, Mass.) made nine saves for her first collegiate shutout.

(September 29, 2012) - Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Cote (Athol, Mass.) made 14 saves on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team was defeated, 3-0, by Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman midfielder Molly Cuevas tallied a goal and an assist in the win for Adelphi.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 26, 2012) – A controversial game-winning goal and a late shot off the post on Wednesday afternoon conspired to leave the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team on the short end of a 2-1 decision on the road against American International in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ronald J. Abdow Field. Junior midfielder Jessica Rogers (Uxbridge, Mass.) scored the lone goal in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

Letarte Snaps Scoreless Drought; Field Hockey Falls at Stonehill, 4-1
EASTON, Mass. (September 24, 2012) – A deflection goal by junior forward Chanelle Letarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) in the second half on Monday afternoon ended a scoreless stretch of 486:05, but three first half goals were the difference, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team was defeated, 4-1, on the road by Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at W.B. Mason Stadium. Senior forward Chelsea Fizell scored twice and added an assist in the victory for Stonehill.

Kelly Goal Gives Field Hockey a 2-1, Double Overtime Win Over Assumption; Coach Guiney Earns 100th Career Victory
RINDGE, N.H. (September 6, 2012) – Sophomore forward Courtney Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) finished off a 2-on-1 break with freshman forward Sara Michaels (Goshen, Conn.) with 2:45 to play in the second overtime on Thursday night to give the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team a 2-1 win over Assumption in non-conference play at Sodexo Field. The win was the 100th career victory for Head Coach Meighan Guiney, who won 56 games at Worcester State from 2001-05, and now has 44 wins at Franklin Pierce since 2006.

Michaels Plays Overtime Hero as Field Hockey Vanquishes Adelphi, 3-2
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (September 4, 2012) – Freshman forward Sara Michaels (Goshen, Conn.) tracked down a loose ball on the right side of the circle, turned and uncorked a shot which beat the charging keeper just 4:12 into overtime on Tuesday afternoon to lift the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Adelphi in non-conference play at Motamed Field. It was Michaels’ second goal of her collegiate debut.

RINDGE, N.H. (August 23, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been selected seventh in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced Thursday by the conference office. The Ravens tallied 47 points in the 11-team poll.

Megan Bird, Alyssa Juszczyk Named 2012 Field Hockey Captains
RINDGE, N.H. (July 18, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has announced that midfielder Megan Bird (Laconia, N.H.) and back Alyssa Juszczyk (Warren, Mass.) will serve as senior co-captains for the 2012 season. Both players started every game in 2011, as the team earned a second straight postseason berth for just the second time in program history.
