Haight Haight earned her second Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week award of the season for her work leading the Ravens backline last week.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 5, 2011) – Senior back Beth Haight (Hamlin, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 2, as announced Tuesday by the Conference office. In addition, senior forward Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.) and senior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) were both named to the Conference's Weekly Honor Roll.

Haight earned the honor primarily for her work leading the Raven defense in the team's 2-0 dismantling of No. 10 nationally ranked Bentley on Saturday afternoon. Though the Falcons were awarded 10 penalty corners in the contest, the Franklin Pierce backline allowed only 10 shot attempts, only three of which were on target. Earlier in the week, last Tuesday, though the Ravens fell 3-0 at Adelphi, the defense held its own. Under siege most of the afternoon, the backline was barraged with 25 shot attempts from the Panthers, but 10 of those were either forced wide of the target or blocked by the defense. In all last week, of 35 shots attempted by opponents over the two games, only 18 (51%) wound up on goal.

It is the second Defensive Player of the Week selection of the season for Haight, who also earned the honor for the week ending on Sept. 7.

Dolan was the central figure to the Raven offense in Saturday's win over Bentley. She factored into both Franklin Pierce goals, assisting on Tia Levins' game-winner and putting home a goal of her own later on.

In all, Nyzio stopped 14 of the 17 shots on her cage while going 1-1 last week. Against Adelphi, she faced 14 shots on goal, but was able to turn 11 of them away in the losing effort. In Saturday's shutout of Bentley, Nyzio stopped each of the three shots sent her way. The 2-0 victory was her eighth career shutout, which established a new program record.

It is the second Weekly Honor Roll selection of the year for both Dolan and Nyzio, as each previously earned the accolade for the week ending on Sept. 7.

The Ravens (5-6, 2-1 Northeast-10) return to the field on Thursday, Oct. 6, when they travel to Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Saturday, Oct. 8 against Massachusetts Lowell at 1 p.m.
