RINDGE, N.H. (October 6,
2009) – Sophomore midfielder Kimberly
Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce
University field hockey team has been named to the
womensfieldhockey.com Division II Weekly Honor Roll for the week
ending on Oct. 4, as announced Tuesday by the website. It is the
second honor of the week for Jaksina, who was named Northeast-10
Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Jaksina played a key part in a Franklin Pierce defensive effort
which allowed just one goal and five shots on goal over two games
last week. In the win at American International, she made a key
defensive save in the first half which held the AIC lead at 1-0 and
eventually allowed the Ravens to rally for the victory with a pair
of second-half goals. Jaksina also contributed at the offensive end
in the win over Assumption. She sent a well-placed free hit from
midfield into the circle late in the game which led to the only
goal of the contest.
On the season, Jaksina has started in all 12 games for the Ravens
and has collected three goals and one assist for seven points. She
has attempted 26 shots, including 11 on goal and has made one
defensive save.
Joining Jaksina on the womensfieldhockey.com Division II Weekly
Honor Roll are Southern Connecticut State junior back Dieny
Charlot, Stonehill senior midfielder Stephanie Kott and Indiana of
Pennsylvania sophomore forward Shannon Sullivan. Bloomsburg senior
forward Breanne Tobin was named Division II Player of the Week,
while Mansfield freshman goalkeeper Jamie Twist was tabbed as
Division II Rookie of the Week.
It is the first honor of the year collected by Franklin Pierce from
womensfieldhockey.com. A year ago, Kristin Tormollan was named to
the website’s All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the
season, while Danielle Dolan earned Rookie of the
Week honors on Oct. 5. Those two honors were the first earned by
the Ravens from the website since 2006.
The Ravens (6-6, 2-2 Northeast-10) return to the field on
Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they return home to host Stonehill in a
Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at
Sodexo Field in Rindge.
