RINDGE, N.H. (October 5,
2009) – Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio
(Attleboro, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University field
hockey team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of
the Week for the week ending on Oct. 4, as announced Monday by the
conference office. In addition, sophomore midfielder
Kimberly Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) was named
Northeast-10 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week and
sophomore forward Lauren L’Heureux (Sanford,
Maine) was named to the conference’s Weekly Honor
Roll. The trio led the Ravens to a pair of victories last week.
Nyzio stopped four of five shots on her cage last week to tally a
2-0 record, an .800 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against
average. On Wednesday afternoon against Assumption, she stopped the
only shot on goal against her to post her first career shutout in a
1-0 Franklin Pierce win. On Saturday night at American
International, she made three saves against four shots to post the
victory in a 2-1 win for the Ravens.
On the season, Nyzio is 5-5 with one shutout, a .754 save
percentage and a 1.40 goals-against average over 700 minutes (10
games) between the pipes. She has made 43 saves against 57
shots.
Jaksina played a key part in a Franklin Pierce defensive effort
which allowed just one goal and five shots on goal over two games
last week. In the win at American International, she made a key
defensive save in the first half which held the AIC lead at 1-0 and
eventually allowed the Ravens to rally for the victory with a pair
of second-half goals. Jaksina also contributed at the offensive end
in the win over Assumption. She sent a well-placed free hit from
midfield into the circle late in the game which led to the only
goal of the contest.

On the season, Jaksina has started
in all 12 games for the Ravens and has collected three goals and
one assist for seven points. She has attempted 26 shots, including
11 on goal and has made one defensive save. Jaksina shares the
weekly award with Stonehill senior Stephanie Kott.
L’Heureux was the beneficiary of Jaksina’s free hit
from midfield on Wednesday afternoon. She corralled the ball in the
circle, turned and fired a shot which found the back of the cage
for the only goal of the game. It was the first goal of her career
for L’Heureux, who would follow it up with the first assist
of her career on Saturday at American International to finish with
three points on a goal and an assist in last week’s pair of
games.
On the season, L’Heureux has appeared in all 12 games for
the Ravens, including four starts and has tallied one goal (a
game-winner) and one assist for three points. She has attempted six
shots, including two on goal.
The Ravens (6-6, 2-2 Northeast-10) return to the field on
Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they return home to host Stonehill in a
Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at
Sodexo Field in Rindge.
