Ravens top coaches' poll
RINDGE, N.H. (April 14, 2015) – For the first time in program history, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team sits at the top of the Division II baseball world. A six-time regional champion and perennial national and regional power, the Ravens are ranked No. 1 nationally for the first time, as announced Monday by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, which oversees the national coaches' poll on behalf of the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Franklin Pierce (30-2) picked up 480 points in the 30-team poll to usurp the top spot from Colorado Mesa (33-5), which fell to the No. 2 position. Nova Southeastern (32-7) at No. 3, Mercyhurst (28-2) at No. 4 and Minnesota State, Mankato (23-4) at No. 5 round out the top five in the coaches' poll. The Ravens are the first of two East Region teams to appear in the national poll, as Wilmington (Del.) (24-7) entered the poll at No. 25 this week. Franklin Pierce opened the season at No. 10 in the coaches' poll.
The other major national poll is issued by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and comes out on Tuesday afternoons. Franklin Pierce is ranked No. 3 nationally in that poll, up one spot from a week ago, and received two of the 17 available first-place votes to total 389 points in the 25-team poll. Franklin Pierce opened the season at No. 18 in the NCBWA poll.
The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday night, as they host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast Division contest. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Pappas Field.
