Dan Kemp Signs Minor League Contract with Seattle Mariners
RINDGE, N.H. (August 5, 2013) – After wrapping up his career with an All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection this spring for the Franklin Pierce University baseball team, shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) has signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. He will report immediately to the Mariners rookie-level, Appalachian League affiliate, the Pulaski Mariners.

Men's Lacrosse's Ben McDannell & Baseball's Ryan Thompson Named to NE-10 All-Academic Team
RINDGE, N.H. (July 2, 2013) – Franklin Pierce University men’s lacrosse standout Ben McDannell (Morrisville, Pa.) and baseball standout Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) were named to the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team in their respective sport on Tuesday as announced by the league. It marked the second-consecutive year both student-athletes were named to the NE-10 academic squads.

Baseball Has Banner Day, Sees Four Taken on Third Day of MLB Draft
RINDGE, N.H. (June 8, 2013) – In a span of 20 minutes on Saturday afternoon, the East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team went from having nobody taken in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft to producing arguably the strongest draft class in program history. Over just 42 picks in the 13th and 14th rounds, the Ravens had three pitchers taken, marking the first time in program history three players were taken in the first 15 rounds. Another pick in the 16th round marked only the third time the program has had four players taken in the same draft (2011, 2006).

Hathaway Headlines Baseball’s Bumper Crop of Draft Hopefuls
RINDGE, N.H. (June 5, 2013) – With the program’s sixth NCAA Regional title now in the rearview mirror, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team turns its sights ahead to the 2014 campaign and defending the East Regional crown. This week, the program will learn plenty about what pieces will return to Rindge in the fall, as it hopes to have a banner year in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, June 6-8. The Ravens have three pitchers who could figure prominently in the Draft, and hope to challenge the program’s all-time record of five selections, set in 2006.

(May 30, 2013) -- Franklin Pierce University baseball standout Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) on Thursday was named to the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third-Team for his impressive performances on the field and in the classroom this season. It marks the second-consecutive year Thompson, a senior right-handed pitcher, was named a third-team academic all-American by the organization.

Five-Run Third Hurts No. 11 Baseball Again, as Season Ends in 10-3 Loss to No. 14/18 GVSU at NCAA Championship National Finals
CARY, N.C. (May 29, 2013) – Junior first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) laced a two-run double into the right-field corner in the third inning on Wednesday afternoon at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, but it would be the final run-scoring play of the season for the No. 11 nationally ranked and East Region Franklin Pierce University baseball team. The double gave the team a 3-1 lead at the time, but the pitching staff surrendered five in the bottom half of the third as the Ravens went on to a 10-3 loss at the hands of No. 14/18 and Midwest Region champion Grand Valley State on the fifth day of the NCAA Championship National Finals, hosted by Town of Cary and Mount Olive College.

Graham, Mathieu Selected to NEIBA All-Star Game
RINDGE, N.H. (May 28, 2013) – Junior right-hander Trevor Graham (Sebastian, Fla.) and junior first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) of the East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team have been selected to participate in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game, as announced Tuesday by the NEIBA. This year’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.

The Franklin Pierce University baseball team captured the sixth NCAA Regional title in program history (2013, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2003) on Sunday, May 19, with a 5-1 win over Wilmington (Del.) in the title game of the NCAA Championship East Regional at Penmen Field in Manchester, N.H. The regional championship advanced the Ravens to the NCAA Championship National Finals, hosted by Mount Olive and the Town of Cary at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

CARY, N.C. (May 27, 2013) – Junior first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) drilled a two-run double to key a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning on Monday evening, but the No. 11 nationally ranked and East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team could get no closer than one run in a come-from-behind effort against No. 2/21 and Central Region champion Minnesota State, Mankato. The double made it 6-5 at the time, but Minnesota State would tack on four runs in the eighth to come away with a 10-5 win at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on the third day of the NCAA Championship National Finals, co-hosted by Town of Cary and Mount Olive College.

Brock’s Eighth-Inning RBI Single, Graham’s Nine Strikeouts Lift No. 11 Baseball to 1-0 Win Over No. 17 Shippensburg in National Finals Opener

(May 25, 2013) – Freshman second baseman Justin Brock (Latham, N.Y.) pulled a two-out RBI single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the eighth inning on Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. It brought home what would stand as the game’s only run, as the No. 11 nationally ranked and East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team posted a 1-0 win over No. 17 Shippensburg, the Atlantic Region champion, in the first game of the NCAA Championship National Finals, co-hosted by Town of Cary and Matt Olive College. Junior right-hander Trevor Graham (Sebastian, Fla.) struck out nine over eight shutout innings on the mound in the victory for Franklin Pierce.

Leach Silences Wilmington, Flynn Slams Door, Baseball Claims Sixth NCAA East Regional Title with 5-1 Win
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 19, 2013) – A four-pitch strikeout of Mike Annone by junior right-hander Joe Flynn (Plymouth, Mass.) sent the sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team pouring out of the dugout at Penmen Field on Sunday afternoon. The looking strikeout finished off a 5-1 victory over top seed Wilmington (Del.) in the championship game of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Southern New Hampshire, as Franklin Pierce punched its ticket to Cary, N.C. and the National Finals. Junior right-hander Ryan Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) fired six innings of three-hit ball without allowing an earned run to make sure Franklin Pierce left Manchester with the trophy in tow.

Dunlap Single Lifts Baseball to Title Game After 3-2 Win in 13-Inning Classic Against SNHU on Third Day of NCAA Championship East Regional
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 18, 2013) – With a runner at third and two out in the top of the 13th inning on Saturday night, junior catcher Marty Dunlap (Dorchester, Mass.) ripped a ball on the left side which took an odd hop over the shortstop’s head for an RBI single which would stand as the game-winning hit, as the sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team posted a 3-2 win over host and fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire at the NCAA Championship East Regional. Sophomore right-hander Doug Willey (Shelburne, N.H.) logged 3.2 innings of two-hit relief work for the win, and senior left-hander Vladimir Camacho (Jamaica Plain, N.Y.) spun eight innings of five-hit ball to start on the mound for Franklin Pierce in the victory.

(May 18, 2013) – Junior right-hander Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.) scattered nine hits and one run while logging a complete game on Saturday, as the sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team picked up an 8-1 game in an elimination contest against fifth-seeded Pace on the third day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Field. Sophomore third baseman Matt O’Herron (Springfield, Mass.) went 4-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run in the win for Franklin Pierce.

(May 17, 2013) – Sophomore left-hander Steve Hathaway (Acton, Mass.) struck out 11 over 5.2 innings of three-hit ball on Friday afternoon, but was ultimately charged with three runs and the loss, as the sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to third-seeded New Haven on the second day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Field. Junior left-hander Pat Simone fanned eight over seven innings of one-run ball in the win for New Haven.

The Ravens, the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division champion, earn an at-large bid in the six-team, double-elimination tournament, which will run Thursday, May 16 through Sunday, May 19 and be hosted by fourth seed Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Field in Manchester, N.H. (May 8, 2013) – The Northeast Division champion and top seed Franklin Pierce University baseball team will open pursuit of its record-tying fifth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title on Tuesday night, when it hosts fourth-seeded Merrimack at 7 p.m. at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field in a first-round contest. Franklin Pierce owns an 18-1 record in 19 games played at Pappas Field this season.

Dunlap Bests Powers; Two-Run Single Claims Northeast Division Title for Baseball with 4-2 Win at No. 19 SNHU
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 4, 2013) – Junior designated hitter Marty Dunlap (Dorchester, Mass.) dumped a 1-2 pitch into right-center field with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning to drive in two runs on Saturday night and turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead on the way to a 4-2 win for the Franklin Pierce University baseball team over No. 19 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Penmen Field. The win, combined with a 3-1 loss by Bentley on the road at Massachusetts Lowell, allowed Franklin Pierce to lay claim to the Northeast Division title, as well as the division’s top seed in next week’s Northeast-10 Championship.

(May 3, 2013) – Senior right-hander Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One All-District I First Team, as announced Friday by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). As a result of the selection, Thompson will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

RINDGE, N.H. (May 2, 2013) – The offense of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team piled up 23 runs on 24 hits across two games on Thursday afternoon, as it swept a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division doubleheader from Saint Michael’s, 12-2 and 11-0, at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. In the second game, junior right-hander Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.) struck out seven over six shutout, three-hit innings of work, as four pitchers combined to throw a three-hit shutout.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 30, 2013) – Senior shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) ripped a two-run double and, two batters later, senior right fielder Nick LaCroix (Grafton, Mass.) clubbed a three-run home run in a five-run sixth inning on Tuesday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University baseball team defeated Saint Anselm, 10-5, at Sullivan Park in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play. Senior right fielder Rett Ostafin went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double and scored three runs in a losing effort for Saint Anselm.

Bats Go Quiet as No. 20/23 Baseball is Swept at Merrimack, 7-3 and 3-2
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 28, 2013) – A sinking line drive off the bat of senior right fielder Mark O’Flynn bounced off the glove of a diving right fielder for a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth in the second game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, as the No. 20/23 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Warrior Baseball Diamond. In the first game, Merrimack got to junior right-hander Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.) for four extra-base hits in just 4.1 innings on the way to a 7-3 victory. The Franklin Pierce offense mustered only five runs on 11 hits over the two games and left 14 men in scoring position in the twinbill.

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 27, 2013) – A four-run top of the first and an 11-strikeout, five-hit complete game from junior right-hander Trevor Graham (Sebastian, Fla.) on Saturday afternoon paved the road to a 4-1 victory for the No. 20/23 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team over Merrimack on the road at Warrior Baseball Diamond in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play. Sophomore right-hander Joe Carnevale countered with a complete-game seven-hitter and struck out six in the loss for Merrimack.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 24, 2013) – Two-base miscues in both the ninth and 10th innings were the difference on Wednesday night, as the No. 20/23 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team turned a 3-2 ninth-inning lead into a 4-3, 10-inning road loss to Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Penmen Field. Franklin Pierce pitching issued 11 walks in the game, though surprisingly none would come around to score.

(April 24, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University baseball team is currently ranked No. 20 nationally in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll and No. 23 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll, as announced earlier this week by both organizations. In addition, Franklin Pierce is ranked second in the East Region by the NCBWA, while checking in at 21st nationally in the College Baseball Lineup Top 30 Rankings.

(April 21, 2013) – Junior right-hander Trevor Graham (Sebastian, Fla.) allowed just one hit while striking out seven over seven innings, while junior first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) went 4-for-4 with a double, scored once and drove in two runs on Sunday afternoon, as the No. 29 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team finished off a three-game weekend sweep of Stonehill with a 4-3 victory in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Senior center fielder James DeAlto drove in two runs in the losing effort for Stonehill.

(April 20, 2013) – Sophomore catcher/designated hitter Matt Walsh (Plymouth, Mass.), who had hit just .226/.310/.258 over 17 games since returning from Florida, put a ringing end to his slump on Saturday afternoon, when he went 4-for-8 with three home runs and a double to lead the No. 29 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Franklin Pierce took the first game, 6-1, before plating four runs from the sixth inning on to come away with an 8-4 win in the second game.

(April 19, 2013) – The No. 29 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team has announced a change to its scheduled doubleheader against Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division foe Stonehill on Saturday, April 20. The two teams will now begin the twinbill at 1 p.m. at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field in Rindge.

(April 9, 2013) -- The Franklin Pierce University baseball team, which had snuck back into the national coaches' poll at No. 30 last week, is now firmly entrenched in the middle of both the national coaches' and writers polls. (April 7, 2013) -- After a 18-9, 15-6 doubleheader sweep of New Haven in non-divisional Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday afternoon at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field, the No. 30 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team has won the first 12 games of a 13-game homestand which began on March 23. The 12 consecutive wins match a program record, which was previously set on four different occasions. Senior left-hander Andrew Kelley threw all 9.2 innings for Saint Michael's in the loss -- tossing 140 pitches to do so -- while allowing just five hits and striking out six.

(March19, 2013) – Sophomore right-hander Brendan O’Rourke (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was masterful over the first five innings on Tuesday afternoon, while his offense built what proved to be an insurmountable lead as the Franklin Pierce University baseball team picked up a 12-5 win on the road against Lynn in non-conference play at Lynn Baseball Field. (September 4, 2012) – While Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field sat quiet over the summer months, its usual cast of characters was spread across the country, honing their skills in various collegiate summer baseball leagues. In June and July, the Franklin Pierce University baseball program was represented in seven different leagues by 15 players expected to be members of the team in 2013.
