(August 5, 2013) – After wrapping up his career with an All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection this spring for the Franklin Pierce University baseball team, shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) has signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. He will report immediately to the Mariners rookie-level, Appalachian League affiliate, the Pulaski Mariners.

It marked the second-consecutive year both student-athletes were named to the NE-10 academic squads.

(June 8, 2013) – In a span of 20 minutes on Saturday afternoon, the East Region champion Franklin Pierce University baseball team went from having nobody taken in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft to producing arguably the strongest draft class in program history. Over just 42 picks in the 13th and 14th rounds, the Ravens had three pitchers taken, marking the first time in program history three players were taken in the first 15 rounds. Another pick in the 16th round marked only the third time the program has had four players taken in the same draft (2011, 2006).

(June 5, 2013) – With the program’s sixth NCAA Regional title now in the rearview mirror, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team turns its sights ahead to the 2014 campaign and defending the East Regional crown. This week, the program will learn plenty about what pieces will return to Rindge in the fall, as it hopes to have a banner year in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, June 6-8. The Ravens have three pitchers who could figure prominently in the Draft, and hope to challenge the program’s all-time record of five selections, set in 2006.

(May 29, 2013) – Junior first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) laced a two-run double into the right-field corner in the third inning on Wednesday afternoon at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, but it would be the final run-scoring play of the season for the No. 11 nationally ranked and East Region Franklin Pierce University baseball team. The double gave the team a 3-1 lead at the time, but the pitching staff surrendered five in the bottom half of the third as the Ravens went on to a 10-3 loss at the hands of No. 14/18 and Midwest Region champion Grand Valley State on the fifth day of the NCAA Championship National Finals, hosted by Town of Cary and Mount Olive College.

The looking strikeout finished off a 5-1 victory over top seed Wilmington (Del.) in the championship game of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Southern New Hampshire, as Franklin Pierce punched its ticket to Cary, N.C. and the National Finals. Junior right-hander Ryan Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) fired six innings of three-hit ball without allowing an earned run to make sure Franklin Pierce left Manchester with the trophy in tow.

Sophomore right-hander Doug Willey (Shelburne, N.H.) logged 3.2 innings of two-hit relief work for the win, and senior left-hander Vladimir Camacho (Jamaica Plain, N.Y.) spun eight innings of five-hit ball to start on the mound for Franklin Pierce in the victory.

(May 4, 2013) – Junior designated hitter Marty Dunlap (Dorchester, Mass.) dumped a 1-2 pitch into right-center field with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning to drive in two runs on Saturday night and turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead on the way to a 4-2 win for the Franklin Pierce University baseball team over No. 19 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Penmen Field. The win, combined with a 3-1 loss by Bentley on the road at Massachusetts Lowell, allowed Franklin Pierce to lay claim to the Northeast Division title, as well as the division’s top seed in next week’s Northeast-10 Championship.

(April 28, 2013) – A sinking line drive off the bat of senior right fielder Mark O’Flynn bounced off the glove of a diving right fielder for a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth in the second game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, as the No. 20/23 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Warrior Baseball Diamond. In the first game, Merrimack got to junior right-hander Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.) for four extra-base hits in just 4.1 innings on the way to a 7-3 victory. The Franklin Pierce offense mustered only five runs on 11 hits over the two games and left 14 men in scoring position in the twinbill.

Sophomore right-hander Joe Carnevale countered with a complete-game seven-hitter and struck out six in the loss for Merrimack.

(April 24, 2013) – Two-base miscues in both the ninth and 10th innings were the difference on Wednesday night, as the No. 20/23 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team turned a 3-2 ninth-inning lead into a 4-3, 10-inning road loss to Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Penmen Field. Franklin Pierce pitching issued 11 walks in the game, though surprisingly none would come around to score.

In addition, Franklin Pierce is ranked second in the East Region by the NCBWA, while checking in at 21st nationally in the College Baseball Lineup Top 30 Rankings.

(April 20, 2013) – Sophomore catcher/designated hitter Matt Walsh (Plymouth, Mass.), who had hit just .226/.310/.258 over 17 games since returning from Florida, put a ringing end to his slump on Saturday afternoon, when he went 4-for-8 with three home runs and a double to lead the No. 29 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Franklin Pierce took the first game, 6-1, before plating four runs from the sixth inning on to come away with an 8-4 win in the second game.
