Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll
RINDGE, N.H. (February 2, 2010) – The No. 10/16
nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been
selected as the favorite in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason
Coaches’ Poll, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
The Ravens collected 11 of 14 available first-place votes and
chalked up 167 points.
Franklin Pierce (37-18, 24-6 NE-10 in 2009) is the three time
defending Northeast-10 Conference champion and has won four of the
last five titles. In addition, the Ravens are the defending
conference regular season champions and have taken three of the
last four Northeast-10 regular season titles. Last year’s
squad earned the second seed in the NCAA Division II Baseball
Championship East Regional and hosted an NCAA regional for the
fifth consecutive season.
In 2010, Franklin Pierce has already been picked 16th in the
nation in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll and 11th
in the Ping!Baseball Top 30 Preseason Rankings.
Adelphi (34-16, 17-7 East Coast in 2009) shares the second spot in
the preseason poll, as it enters its first Northeast-10 Conference
campaign after claiming the East Coast Conference regular season
title and appearing in the final round of the NCAA East Regional a
year ago. The Panthers split the second spot with Southern
Connecticut State (25-20, 20-10 NE-10 in 2009), as each team
collected 139 points. Massachusetts Lowell (25-21, 15-15 NE-10)
garnered one first-place vote and 137 points to take the fourth
spot, while New Haven (22-21, 16-14 NE-10) collected 113 points to
round out the top five.
Assumption (33-21-1, 20-9-1 NE-10), the conference runner-up a
year ago in both the regular season and postseason, picked up the
remaining two first-place votes and chalked up 110 points to place
sixth in the preseason poll. Behind the Greyhounds, Bentley (28-22,
19-11 NE-10), Pace (20-30-1, 13-17 NE-10) and Stonehill (24-22,
14-16 NE-10) fill out the sixth through ninth positions,
respectively, while Saint Rose (21-27, 14-16 NE-10) and Southern
New Hampshire (14-26-1, 11-18-1 NE-10) tied for 10th. Saint Anselm
(16-31, 11-19 NE-10) placed 12th, Merrimack (20-27, 11-19 NE-10)
13th and American International (8-34, 6-24 NE-10) 14th.
The Ravens open the 2010 season on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they
travel to Dowling for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is
scheduled for 12 p.m. at Golden Lions Field in Shirley, N.Y.
Franklin Pierce is slated to play its first home game on Thursday,
