Dowd, Ingui Tabbed As Preseason All-Americans By ABCA

RINDGE, N.H. (January 6,
2010) – Sophomore catcher Mike Dowd (East
Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior outfielder Derek
Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) have been selected as East Region
Preseason All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches
Association, as announced in the Jan. 8 issue of Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper. In addition, junior pitcher Brian
Maloney (Brockton, Mass.) was named as a “player to
watch” in the East Region, while graduate student first
baseman Mike Augustine (Kingston, N.Y.) was
selected as a “newcomer to watch.”
A true freshman in 2009, Dowd led the Ravens in hitting by 24
points this season, with a .380 batting average (78-for-205) which
was also good for fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference. He led the
Northeast-10 in on-base percentage (.450) and also ranked in the
top 10 in the conference in seven other categories. Dowd finished
the season tied for second in the Northeast-10 in hits, ranked
fourth total bases (116), tied for fourth in doubles (15), tied for
fifth in runs scored (47), ranked seventh in slugging percentage
(.566) and tied for seventh in runs batted in (43) and home runs
(7).
The 2009 awards season was a busy one for Dowd, who received All-East Region First Team accolades from Daktronics, the ABCA and the NCBWA, in addition to an Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Baseball All-Star First Team selection. Furthermore, he was named ABCA East Region Rookie of the Year, ECAC Rookie of the Year and Northeast-10 Conference Co-Freshman of the Year. Nationally, Dowd earned an All-America Honorable Mention from Daktronics after also collecting All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team and Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team accolades for his standout season. He also participated in the 35th annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association New England College Baseball All-Star game in June.

Ingui finished second on the Ravens
in 2009 with a .356 batting average (78-for-219) which put him
seventh in the Northeast-10. He led the conference in triples (7)
and total bases (134), while placing in the conference’s top
10 in six other categories. Ingui finished the season second in the
Northeast-10 in runs scored (53), tied for second in hits, third in
slugging percentage (.612) and runs batted in (47), tied for third
in home runs (9) and tied for fourth in doubles (15). At the end of
the season, Ingui was selected ABCA All-East Region First Team,
NCBWA All-East Region First Team, Daktronics All-East Region Second
Team, ECAC Division II Baseball All-Star First Team and
All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team. In addition, he joined Dowd
at the NEIBA All-Star Game. Ingui also garnered CoSIDA/ESPN: The
Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team and Northeast-10
Conference All-Academic Team honors for his work in the classroom,
where he sports a 3.79 grade-point average.
Maloney made only five appearances on the mound for Franklin Pierce
due to injury and was granted a medical hardship waiver after the
season. In his five appearances, he made one start and posted a
3.09 earned-run average over 11.2 innings. In his last full season,
Maloney went 8-2 with a 2.87 earned-run average and 99 strikeouts
over 78.1 innings in 15 appearances (12 starts) en route to NCBWA
All-Northeast Region Second Team and All-Northeast-10 Conference
Second Team selections as a sophomore in 2008.
Augustine comes to Rindge for his final year of eligibility in 2010
as a graduate student after playing parts of three seasons at
Boston College.
The Ravens open the 2010 season on Saturday, Feb. 21, when they
travel to Dowling for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is
scheduled for 12 p.m. at Golden Lions Field in Shirley, N.Y.
Franklin Pierce is slated to play its first home game on Thursday,
March 25 against Saint Anselm at 3:30 p.m. at Dr. Arthur and Martha
Pappas Field in Rindge.


Mike Dowd has been named an East Region Preseason All-American by
the ABCA.
Derek Ingui was selected by the ABCA as an East Region Preseason
All-American.
