RINDGE, N.H. (May 7, 2009) –
Sophomore designated hitter Derek
Ingui (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) of the Franklin
Pierce University baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN: The Magazine Academic
All-District I Second Team in the College Division (Division II and
III institutions), as announced Thursday by College Sports
Information Directors of America. To be eligible for selection to
the All-District teams, a student athlete must be at least a
sophomore academically, must have completed at least one academic
year at their current institution, must hold a 3.30 cumulative
grade-point average or greater and must have participated in half
of their team’s games.
Currently closing out the second semester of his sophomore year,
Ingui has put together a 3.68 grade-point average and has yet to
declare a major. On the field, Ingui is a spark plug to the
Franklin Pierce offense. Currently third on the team with a .328
batting average (61-for-186), he leads the team and the
Northeast-10 Conference with seven triples, while also leading the
team in home runs (7), runs batted in (39) and runs scored
(39).
Among all Division II baseball players, Ingui is tied for 11th in
the country with seven triples and is 14th nationally with 0.13
triples per game. In addition to leading the conference in triples,
he is tied for fifth in the Northeast-10 in home runs; ranks sixth
in slugging percentage (.570), runs scored, runs batted in and
total bases (106); and ranks eighth in hits (61).
Ingui’s strong sophomore season comes on the heels of an
award-laden freshman campaign. In 2008, he was a Daktronics
All-America Honorable Mention, a First-Team Daktronics
All-Northeast Regional selection and a Second-Team All-Northeast-10
Conference selection.
The Ravens (33-15, 24-6 Northeast-10) return to action this weekend
when they host the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship.
Franklin Pierce opens play on Friday, May 8 against New Haven at 4
p.m. at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field.
