Scott Savastano Named Clinton Lumberkings Hitter Of The Week

RINDGE, N.H. (April 24, 2009) –
Former Franklin Pierce University baseball player Scott Savastano has been named the
Hitter of the Week for the Clinton Lumberkings for the week ending
on April 19, by the U.S.S. Mariner blog in its weekly “Minor
League Wrap” of the Seattle Mariners organization. The
Lumberkings are a Class-A, Midwest League affiliate of the
Mariners.
In five games last week, primarily as a designated hitter,
Savastano hit .529 (9-for-17), drove in three runs, scored five
times, stole a pair of bases and worked a walk. He also posted a
.556 on-base percentage and a .529 slugging percentage over the
five games. The highlight of the week for Savastano was a 3-for-3
performance in the second game of a doubleheader against Cedar
Rapids.
On the season, Savanstano has hit
.333 (11-for-33), driven in three runs, scored seven times and
posted a .405 on-base percentage in 10 games for Clinton.
Savastano was selected in the 28th round (852nd overall pick) by
the Mariners in the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player
Draft after a standout junior season at Franklin Pierce. The
Plymouth, Mass. native was an ABCA/Rawlings All-America Second Team
selection, an NCBWA All-America Third Team selection and a
consensus All-Northeast Region selection. After being drafted,
Savastano hit .298 with four doubles, two triples and a home run,
drove in 15 runs and scored 11 times in 26 games with
Seattle’s Arizona League, rookie-level affiliate in 2008.
